Andrea Tompa was born in 1971 in Cluj, Romania. After the Romanian revolution she moved to Hungary, where she studied Russian Literature in Budapest. Gradually she began to turn to theatre, wrote theatre critiques and is editor of the theatre magazine Színház. For the last two years she has taught at the University of Cluj in the Faculty of Theatre Studies. The main focus of her academic work is Russian, Hungarian and East European Theatre. At present she is the president of the Association of Hungarian Theatre Critics and has just published her first novel about 1970s and 1980s Romania.
